This year the international dance festival “New Baltic Dance” for the 23rd time gathers contemporary dancers from all over the world in Vilnius, Lithuania. The 2019 program features 22 performances and the launch of the Baltic Dance Platform with the aim of representing the contemporary dance of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
The Baltic Dance Platform aims to promote networking and collaborations between contemporary dance artists and different institutions, spread information, urge the realization of joint projects, and develop possibilities for educational activities.
During this year's festival the Baltic Dance Platform will present seven perdormances. Šeiko Dance Company (Lithuania) in a collaboration with the internationally acknowledged dance company from Denmark Granhøj Dans will present the premiere “Boléro-Extended”. Lithuanian company “Aura” premiere the new piece “Kaunas Zoo” by awarded choreographer Birutė Letukaitė. “22nd Internationales Solo - Tanz Festival Stuttgart” prize winner, young generation artists Lukas Karvelis (Lithuania) will debut with his solo work “Blank Spots”. Agate Bankava and Andris Kačanovskis (Latvia) “Future Freak”, Sintija Siliņa (Latvia) “Bedre / Rock Bottom” will be shown during the Baltics weekend. First time collaboration, featuring Estonian dancers Joanna Kalm, Karolin Poska, Sigrid Savi, Joonas Tagel and Swedish actress Salla Loper will present “Fluids” and Sigrid Savi show “Imagine There's a Fish”.
“We're very excited that Lithuanian Dance Information Centre starts the very first Baltic Dance Platform. Alongside the main performance events at the program of the festival New Baltic Dance, there will be pitch sessions and special meetings with the artists from all three Baltic countries. Baltic Dance Platform will host around 60 international experts and producers from France, China, Spain, Israel, Sweden, Hungary, USA and many others in Vilnius. The Platform will present independent Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian dance artists and dance theatres, who are exploring the boundaries of choreography, movement, artistic approaches and socio-critical voices,” - coordinator of Baltic Dance Platform Ingrida Gerbutavičiūtė.
The first pilot Baltic Dance Platform on May 9-11, 2019 in Vilnius during the XXIII international contemporary dance festival New Baltic Dance is organized by Lithuanian Dance Information Centre, in cooperation with Lithuanian Culture Institute and Lithuanian Cultural Attachés, and in cooperation with Latvian Dance Information Center and Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava / STL (Estonia).
