
The play Malыš by playwright Marius Ivaškevičius was granted the first prize at the international new dramaturgy festival The Recovery of Present organised in Yerevan, on October 26-31 this year.
Held for the first time the festival The Recovery of Present aims to popularize modern dramaturgy of the CIS and Baltic countries and to organise playwright meetings. During the festival, the readings of the best plays of the last decade written by dramatists from those countries as well as the related discussions were arranged.
The play Malыš by playwright Marius Ivaškevičius was granted the highest award not only from the festival jury but also from all the participants. Great attention was paid to an innovative dramaturgic form of the play and its new approach towards historical memory uniting the majority of the countries taking part in the festival. The plays from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, and Estonia also received recognition and praise from both the jury and participants of the festival.
Marius Ivaškevičius created the play Malыš in cooperation with the festival New Drama Action in 2001. In 2002, the play was staged at the Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre and was directed by the playwright himself.
