Last year the Sirens received more than one hundred per cent attendance – all tickets, even standing ones, were sold out. Visiting producers and theatre critics of other festivals got acquainted with Lithuanian theatre. After the Sirens, the performance of the Youth Theatre directed by Cezaris Graužinis was invited to South Korea, the performance of Kaunas Drama theatre The Merchant of Venice (Lith. The Sirens is taking place from September 24 to October 4 and is going to introduce social theatre.
The festival will be opened by one of the most interesting German theatres – Münchner Kammerspiele – with the performance Othello by its leader Luk Perceval.
Hungarian director Arpad Schilling will show his Seagull in an Arts Printing House under reconstruction.
The audience of the Sirens is already familiar with the Belgian company Victoria. This year, their performance White Star has become the winner in Torun Theatre Festival Kontakt in Poland.
The performance of the German group Rimini Protokol called Sabenation, or Go Home and Follow the News is based on the bankruptcy documents of Sabena airline. Four out of twelve thousand former Sabena employees play in the performance.
The Sirens will also present Tarelkin’s Death by Oskaras Koršunovas, which was staged by a Lithuanian team in Alexander Kaliagin Theatre Et cetera, Russia.
For the closing of the Festival – The History of Clown Ronald McDonald, the anti-global performance by Rodrigo Garcia, the enfant terrible of the Spanish Theatre.
Ten Lithuanian performances will also fill the Lithuanian Theatre Showcase. Moreover, various educational programmes and the events of the club of the festival will take place.
